Few cinematic genres have a more lasting effect on the senses than horror, and few films illustrate this claim better than A Quiet Place. The freaky franchise is back with a new installment that actually is worth screaming about.
IDW Publishing has released a first look at the quickly approaching third issue of A Quiet Place: Storm Warning, a new comic book set in the world of the sensational scary movies.
The series depicts the invasion of sound-hunting, man-eating extraterrestrial creatures in a town called Pearl, Iowa, during which it also experiences a violent flood. The story is told from the perspective of various interconnected characters, including the local mayor Terri Phair, who is seen in the opening pages of A Quiet Place: Storm Warning #3, seeming to find refuge on a beach.
However, just an earshot away is her alien enemy prowling on top of a house and unable to detect Terri due to the overwhelming sounds of the surrounding storm. This allows her an opportunity to safely reach fire chief Lonnie Fry's daughter, Mia, whom she finds hanging from the branch of a beached tree trunk by her backpack strap, but miraculously alive.
Unfortunately, she struggles to climb atop the wreckage where Mia is perched, creating noise that appears to catch the attention of the nearby creature. Making matters worse, just as Terri is about to help the fellow survivor safely remove herself from the branch, the wood breaks. The preview cuts off after a panel close-up on that "KRAK," meaning readers are going to have to pick up A Quiet Place: Storm Warning #3 to find out what happens next.
The four-part, post-apocalyptic limited series, which debuted in March, comes from writer Phil Hester, who is known for his work on comic books based on pre-existing movies and TV shows. For instance, he illustrated Clerks: The Lost Scene for Kevin Smith, with whom he also co-created DC villain Onomatopoeia.
Artist Ryan Kelly of DC Vertigo's Lucifer fame handles the penciling and inking for A Quiet Place: Storm Warning. Serving as the colorist is Lee Loughridge, who, like Hester, also has comics based on TV shows under his belt, such as Angel (spun off from the eponymous Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off) and The Batman Adventures, which is set in the universe of Batman: The Animated Series.
A Quiet Place Is Also Returning To The Big Screen

A Quiet Place Part III is now in production with a set release date of July 30, 2027, and John Krasinski is returning as writer and director. Franchise veterans Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe are reprising their roles for another tale of survival in a world overrun with malevolent aliens who have forced the human race to live in complete silence.
Krasinski, the former The Office star whose portrayal of Tom Clancy's famous CIA analyst made his feature film debut in Amazon Prime's Jack Ryan: Ghost War, not only helmed but also starred in the original 2018 hit that started it all as Lee Abbott. Blunt, his real-life spouse, plays Lee's wife, Evelyn, who assumed the lead of the 2021 follow-up, A Quiet Place Part II, which shows more of this dystopian world, but still mostly through the same family's eyes.
A Quiet Place III will currently be the fourth cinematic installment of the sci-fi horror franchise overall, following the release of A Quiet Place: Day One. The 2024 spin-off showed a glimpse of the invasion's origins, but in a new location (New York City) and from new characters (Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o as cancer patient Samira and Joseph Quinn as out-of-towner Eric).
A Quiet Place: Storm Warning #3 hits the shelves on May 27.
