Superman Toy Confirms Identity of a Mysterious Character Fans Have Been Debating For Months

Superman fans have one of their most contentious theories confirmed thanks to an early look at one of the toys from the new film.

Written and directed by Gunn, Superman features a star-studded ensemble cast led by Corenswet as the titular hero. Corenswet is joined by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor, Wendell Pierce as Daily Planet Editor-in-Chief Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Jon and Martha Kent. The film also stars a whole host of other superpowered heroes, including Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan's Metamorpho, and Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl.

Apart from rebooting its own feature film series, Superman is set to serve as a jumping-off point for Gunn's overarching plan for the DCU. Specifically, Superman will set off the first part of Gunn and fellow DC Studios co-head Peter Safran's expansive plan for the DCU, entitled Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. All of this was preceded by the events of 2023's The Flash, which Gunn himself referred to as a "soft reboot" of the wider on-screen DC Universe.

James Gunn's Superman movie might be exactly the opportunity the Green Lantern Corps need to let their powers shine, and make up for one massive flop.

Back in April, Warner Bros. Pictures co-CEO Mike De Luca gave Superman a glowing review. "I think James Gunn has crushed it," De Luca said. "It's got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping." De Luca went on to state that the film is "the Superman I grew up with... I think it's so epic and visually arresting and emotional. The performances are great. It is a five-star movie to me, and I can't wait for the world to see it. Yeah, we're really excited about Superman, James crushed it." De Luca went on to explain that the film is close in spirit to Christopher Reeve's Superman, before proclaiming it "a love letter to what has made Superman endure for almost a hundred years."

Superman is currently slated to soar into theaters everywhere on July 11.
