Absolute Batman prices are on the rise across the board following the news that an animated series is officially on the way.
Comic book collectors and speculators have seen a substantial jump in the price of copies of nearly every single issue of Absolute Batman after the news broke that an animated adaptation has been greenlit by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. Raw, unsigned copies of Absolute Batman #1 have officially broken past the $200 USD mark on the secondary market, while subsequent issues that previously commanded premiums of between $20 USD and $30 USD are now sitting comfortably at $50 USD on average.
The Success and Impact of DC's Absolute Universe, Explained
Image via DCDC Comics' Absolute Universe itself was born out of the events of 2024's All In Special #1, which saw Darkseid launch an all-out assault on the then newly minted Justice League Unlimited's Watchtower. After being quite literally obliterated, the villain's consciousness was able to traverse the veil that separates the rest of the Multiverse from the enigmatic, infantile universe known as the Elseworld, where he bonded to the very fabric of its reality and reshaped it into a grim and gritty version of the DC Universe fans know best.
Since then, titles like Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman, and Absolute Martian Manhunter have dominated the sales charts, all while garnering largely rave reviews from critics and readers alike. In fact, Absolute Batman ended up taking a whopping 15 out of the top 31 spots on ICv2's list of the bestselling comic books of 2025, with the top spot on the list ultimately going to the fan-favorite crossover anthology Marvel/DC: Deadpool/Batman one-shot.
Back in October 2025, Absolute Batman artist Nick Dragotta tacitly confirmed his own hopes to see the series receive an animated adaptation for the small screen while discussing Inart and LPZZ Toys' lines of figures. "I'm not in the know, but I know DC makes and licenses quality stuff so I'm excited to see what comes." Dragotta added, "Personally, I'd love to see a Studio Trigger anime of Ab Bat."
On June 25, much to the delight of fans everywhere, it was reported that DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation had greenlit an animated Absolute Batman adaptation. The upcoming animated series will mark Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder's first major foray into television, with the scribe serving as both executive producer and showrunner on the series. Dragotta will also serve as a producer on the series, as confirmed during the World’s Finest Animation: DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation Showcase at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.
Snyder has also previously opened up about what the overall trajectory of Absolute Batman in print looks like, noting that he and Dragotta have the series mapped out to somewhere between 35 and 40 issues in total. Snyder stated in 2025, "I hope it reminds people that these characters are meant to be renewed. They're meant to be burned down and put together. Batman weaponizes his trauma to make the world better; that's how he wins." Of course, with the overwhelming popularity of the Absolute Universe as a whole, the story of The Dark Knight may not actually end just because his solo series is set to reach its own inevitable conclusion.
