Growing up in rural Iowa as a reluctant reader, it all changed when he started reading the original Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Now Austin can't stop reading. He has written about comics for Comic Book Yeti and he has also written tons of indie comics, best known for Big Guns Stupid Rednecks.

Adventure Time captured both the attention and love of millions around the world with its cute, fun, and hilarious stories. Adventure Time makes its long-awaited return to comics this July with a new series from Oni Press, titled Adventure Time: Quadruple Feature.

From the creative team of award-winning writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Brenda Hickey, this new miniseries is described by publisher Oni Press as “a first-of-its-kind Adventure Time love letter to the silver screen.” The comic features Jake, Marceline, BMO, and Lumpy Space Princess going to the movies. They can't agree on what kind of movie they want to see, which leads to each of them pitching their choices to the others. Each issue focuses on one character and what kind of film they want to watch.

Issue #1 starts with Jake pitching his choice of “What's Up, Princess?” which is a 1940s screwball comedy movie. It is still unknown what Marceline, BMO, and Lumpy Space Princess will suggest, as nothing has been confirmed. Oni Press tells fans what to expect from the comic in its official synopsis, reading, “Fast-paced action, faster-paced quips, highfalutin dames, fellas in over their heads, and a host of familiar faces explode across the silver screen in this love letter to genre and cinema!”

This is the first release of two confirmed new Adventure Time comics from Oni Press. The second, Adventure Time Pride Special: PB & Marcy's Infinite Mixtape #1 by writer Rosie Knight and artist Evgenia Verel, hits shelves in June to coincide with Pride Month. Oni Press acquired the rights in 2024, with the previous incarnation of Adventure Time comics being published by BOOM! Studios. BOOM! Studios published over 100 issues of mainline comics, along with dozens of original graphic novels and character-focused miniseries.

Past Adventure Time comics feature several creative teams, including creators like Josh Trujilo, Ryan North, James Tynion IV, Natasha Allegri, Luke Pearson, and many more who gave us stories about Princess Bubblegum running for president, Marceline touring with her band, and tales which dove deeper into characters like Root Beer Guy, Lemongrab, the Bananna Guard, and others who didn't get as much screen time in the cartoon series.

Bringing in the idea of the movies these characters would enjoy sets this comic apart from its cartoon counterpart. Will BMO want to watch a spaghetti Western with actual spaghetti? Will Lumpy Space Princess try to persuade the group into watching a slasher featuring a cast of gangster cats? Only time will tell. What readers do know is that this comic will give fans a new story with fan-favorite characters making their return.

Adventure Time: Quadruple Feature #1 will be available for purchase on July 1 wherever comics are sold.
