All Hunger Games Theater Blitz Leads Into a New Prequel

All five The Hunger Games movies returned to theaters this week, giving fans one more chance to revisit Panem before a new prequel arrives. Lionsgate and Fathom Entertainment will screen one film each day from Sept. 3 through Sept. 7, 2026. The event begins with The Hunger Games on Sept. 3, followed by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Sept. 4. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 will screen on Sept. 5, while The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 follows on Sept. 6. The series will close with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes on Sept. 7. The original film premiered in 2012 and introduced audiences to a future society where the ruling Capitol forces children from poorer districts to fight to the death on live television. The story follows Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old from District 12 who volunteers to take her younger sister’s place in the deadly competition. Jennifer Lawrence became an international star as Katniss, while Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth also gained major attention from the franchise.
