The studio bought the rights to Holly Black’s best-selling The Folk of the Air trilogy, and it will team with Ridley Scott and his Scott Free Productions to build the show for Prime Video. The deal comes as Amazon leans hard on fantasy after mixed results in the genre. The studio backed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power with a record budget, and it also carried The Wheel of Time until that show ended. Now Amazon wants a fresh hit that can run for years. The Folk of the Air fits that plan because it has a built-in fan base, clear story arcs, and a world that can support multiple seasons if the first year lands. The story follows Jude Duarte, a mortal girl raised in the faerie realm of Elfhame after her parents are killed. She has to survive court politics, shifting alliances, and a social order that treats humans like outsiders. Ridley Scott brings real weight to this project. He directed the 1985 fantasy film Legend, and he has overseen large epics like Exodus: Gods and Kings that deal with power, betrayal, and rebellion against a ruling class.
