Apple TV Quietly Adds a Major Movie Upgrade

Apple TV is changing its approach to streaming. The service, which launched as Apple TV+ in 2019, built its identity around original movies and television shows while leaving most older Hollywood titles in its separate rental and purchase store. That strategy helped Apple stand apart from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+. Netflix entered streaming after starting as a DVD rental company, while Disney launched Disney+ in 2019. Apple’s subscription service took a narrower path, focusing on exclusive programming instead of building a large catalog of licensed content. That narrow strategy has now shifted. As reported by MovieWeb, Apple TV added 19 well-known movies to its U.S. subscription library this week, allowing subscribers to watch them without paying a separate rental fee. The movies appear in a new section called “Great Movies Available Now on Apple TV.” The lineup includes 21 Jump Street, A Beautiful Mind, Arrival, Charlie’s Angels, E.T., Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Gone Girl, I, Robot, Looper, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Aviator, The Bourne Identity, The Martian, The Proposal, The Rookie, The Sixth Sense, Titanic, Zodiac and Zoolander.
