Big Barda has been taken hostage and could possibly be the Birds of Prey’s newest enemy. The heroines left in the team are trying to retrace Barda’s steps and figure out how to rescue her but they’re in for a rough surprise!
So I made the mistake of looking at the viewer statistics of these reviews for Birds of Prey and these are consistently getting the lowest eyeball counts on this site. I started asking myself why? Is it because no one cares about this comic? Is it because the people who do care about this comic don’t care about my reviews? Are people tired of hearing me complain about the same things over and over again? I don’t know what’s going on but it was just a bit sad to see. So here you go, getting to peek behind the curtains as well.
Do y’all go on other sites for reviews? I love seeing what other writers are saying about a comic I reviewed. I’m so jealous right now of the websites that basically post a simple paragraph of their opinion and call it a day. I’ve said my piece time and time again about this series that it’s floating by without any real hitches and if you’re enjoying the ride then keep driving. I wish I could do the same now but I guess there’s some things that are always new and fun to talk about even if I have to repeat myself on everything else around it.
Kelly Thompson is focusing more on the heroines in this issue which I appreciate. The tension between the Oracle and Black Canary characters has been rising since Barda’s disappearance and the way they confront each other is really nice to read. You get a feeling for how much each team member means to Canary and the way that the Oracle feels out of touch when she’s only able to assist them from. This is mirrored by the fact that when they argue with each other Canary is standing over Oracle, since she’s the captain, and Oracle is on her chair, which is her point of command.
The artists Sami Basrit, Vicente Cifuentes and Adriano Lucas all make the art very easy to digest. There’s some fun moments where the art plays with the point of view of characters and in general the writing is completely supported by what we’re seeing. This is quality work through and through. Adriano Lucas on the colors is making the nostalgic aspect of the comic stays as a soft and pleasant aesthetic for these stories. The lettering by Clayton Cowles is great as always and manages to make the dialogue heavy issue feel like a breeze.

- Big Barda being a baddie and breaking backs sounds badass
- You’re still enjoying the series
Overall
You know what to expect. It’s still delivering and if you’re still picking it up and happy with what you see then I’m glad!
