Their journey soon brings them to Terminus, GA, a near lawless cityscape that just so happens to be home to the Body Baggers. The world of Body Bags was first introduced by the late, critically acclaimed creator Jason Pearson. The original series was launched in 1996 by Gaijin Studios, which Pearson co-founded with a variety of other acclaimed comic book creators, and quickly gained a cult following among a dedicated fan base. The series follows Mack and his daughter Panda, a pair of overtly lethal, frequently overzealous "body baggers, or assassins, who operate within the fictional city of Terminus, Georgia. Body Baggers has gone on to maintain its status as a fan-favorite over the years, and holds a special place in the hearts of many following Pearson's tragic passing in late 2022.
Created by writer and artist Tim Seeley, Hack/Slash debuted in 2004 under Devil's Due Publishing and helped redefine horror comics for the Millennial Era. Hack/Slash follows Cassie Hack, the daughter of the dreaded Lunch Lady, who found herself stepping into the role of her world's premier Slasher slayer, hunting down accursed and undying serial killers all across the world alongside her trusty partner, Vlad. Hack/Slash has crossed over with a plethora of other fan-favorite horror properties since the series began, including the Evil Dead franchise with 2013's Army of Darkness versus Hack-Slash.

Back in 2023, Seeley handed the reins of his series over to Eisner-nominated writer Zoe Thorogood for Hack/Slash: Back to School, a tense, tight miniseries that was well over a year in development at the time of its release. At the time, Seeley discussed letting a younger writer take on his iconic Slayer slasher, saying, "It’s great because she’s closer to our main character’s age than I am, obviously. I’ve been working on Cassie’s adventures since I was Zoe’s age, but I have aged 20 years since." Seeley continued, "So, it’s great to have somebody who’s in a similar headspace to our character, and she’s able to go back and do a lot of what you saw in her autobiographical work, which is this very aggressive but aware of depression style story. That’s perfect for Cassie. We can now fictionalize that stuff she told such great stories about and bring it to Hack/Slash."
