Clues About Amazon’s Bond Reboot Hidden in Delayed 007 Game?

The latest James Bond reboot has been delayed as the studio aims to deliver the expected level of quality. The pause affects Amazon’s upcoming 007 project as well as the video game 007 First Light, which will now release later than planned.

IO Interactive Chief Executive Hakan Abrak announced the decision on the game’s official social media accounts. The release will shift by two months to May 27, 2026. The studio describes 007 First Light as its most ambitious project to date and says the extra time will allow for polishing and refinement to provide a strong launch experience. The message emphasizes a commitment to a comprehensive Bond experience that includes action, globe-trotting, spycraft, gadgets, and car chases.

The game is in development for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and other platforms. 007 First Light will present a standalone origin story about a young James Bond, tracing the Royal Navy air crewman who joins MI6. The project is described as a unique narrative separate from any film.

Patrick Gibson, known for Dexter: Original Sin, has been cast as the voice of the next James Bond in the game. Gibson has also been mentioned in betting markets as a potential live-action Bond. There is speculation about Amazon’s live-action plans, including a report that the studio intends to push Bond’s origin story and feature a younger Bond before he receives his license to kill. It’s been confirmed Denis Villeneuve will be involved in a future film.

The video game could offer clues about Amazon’s broader approach to the Bond franchise, even if 007 First Light is not a direct film continuation. Updates for 007 First Light are expected in early 2026.
