The Journal regrets the error. Adam Fortier, a comics industry veteran whose career has included publisher roles at Boom! Studios and Joe Books, currently stands accused of two simultaneous instances of unsound business practices and unmet financial obligations. In one case, which has resulted in an ongoing lawsuit from former business associates at Macroverse Media, Fortier is alleged to have received $600,000 in payments from Macroverse while secretly negotiating his own business deals with Marvel and DC Comics without the company’s knowledge. In a separate, unrelated venture, Fortier left eight veteran comics artists and one former Marvel Comics editor unpaid after hiring them to work on a sports trading card set in 2025. Fortier continues to owe more than $9,000 in unpaid invoices to the artists and editor for work delivered to him throughout that project.
