“A Sacred Task”
Recovering from his battle with the Son of the Tooth, Conan has come to know some of the locals in Khoraja. The woman who he had helped escape Shuma-Gorath’s sorcery, now aided the Cimmerian as he regained his health. It was a long process, but those around him were most grateful.
The offers of local employment were many, yet Conan declined in earnest. The road called to him, as did the thoughts of adventure. His destiny was not that of a local constable or a Khorajaian mercenary. So when a finely garbed priestess appeared inside the inn one day, Conan accepted her pleadings for an armed escort. It would be days later before he would realize just what he had gotten himself into. This was no ordinary woman. Her whole being is tied to the past.
Will Conan and the priestess reach the other side of the great Eastern Desert? What haunts the cursed plains of Mardeh? How much of the reward will Emida receive for nursing Conan back to life? Collect the series to find out!
“The Ghosts Of Robert E. Howard”
Jeffrey Shanks brings us another exclusive look into the ghostly world of Robert E Howard. From the Hyborian age to the American Civil War, Howard kept a mostly traditional, yet raw puissance in his supernatural tales. For me, this style is my favorite in the genre. Ghosts are all around us. Following through the ages.
Review
This was a wonderful one-shot story that reminded me so much of Bêlit’s adventure in “Becoming A Goddess” (from the recent Savage Sword of Conan No.14). Never follow a strange woman into an abandoned temple. Unexpected things always happen to those who enter afterward. Fortune favors Conan. For this, I give three out of five stars for this issue. Thank you, Jim Zub!
