Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
There is a type of DC Comics fan who is dedicated to keeping up with all that goes on in the main timeline. Then, there is also the type of DC fan who simply cannot get enough of Batman.
Lucky for the latter, the publisher has the Batsignal shining on a constant basis, with new stories that put the Dark Knight on the crusade coming out practically every other day. In fact, there is one upcoming Batman comic that has not been officially announced yet.
Unreleased Batman Comic Confirmed By Tony Daniel
Tony Daniel has revealed that there is a new Batman series on the horizon that DC has yet to formally announce. In fact, he claims that he has already illustrated it.
The veteran comic book writer and artist dropped this knowledge when participating in an interview for AiPT, during which his recent work on X-Men was the primary topic of discussion. However, when explaining how he came to be appointed for that Marvel title, his previous tenure with DC and his mystery Batman project came up.
"I have been freelancing, doing covers for both Marvel and DC for a year or so after I wrapped up a few years doing indie books at Image. I’ve expressed my interest in returning to Marvel to do some books over the years. But I had been exclusive with DC for so long; it’s been a while since I was free from exclusivity. After I wrapped up three issues of a yet-to-be-published Batman story, I let the nice folks at Marvel know that I was finally freed up. Soon after that, I got an email from Tom Brevoort who asked if I’d be down for doing some X-Men. It was super casual, no high expectations on me, just do a good job, and the rest will take care of itself."
Under DC, Daniel has penned, drawn, or served double duty on titles ranging from 2007's Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, The Savage Hawkman, Deathstroke Vol. 3, and the pre-New 52 run of Batman alongside Grant Morrison and later on his own. He is also known for popular Image Comics releases like Spawn, The Tenth, and the publisher's adaptation of the Tomb Raider video games.
As he mentions during his AiPT interview, his "yet-to-be-published Batman story" was his last project with DC before being brought on as the main artist for X-Men at Marvel Comics. He currently collaborates on the ongoing series with a longtime veteran of the world of Mutantkind, writer Jed MacKay.
Tony Daniel Teased Unreleased Batman Story In 2025
Image via DC ComicsTony Daniel's mystery Batman project is still being kept under wraps by DC for now. However, the creator may have already let a few details about the series slip.
Back in October of last year, he shared an animated post on his Instagram account unveiling his story art for an "unreleased Batman" comic. The illustrations show the Caped Crusader trading fists with a few clownish criminals wielding the kind of cartoonishly oversized mallet one might see Harley Quinn carrying around and, seemingly, a cover art design featuring what appears to be a modern iteration of the arsonist Batman rogue, Firefly.
In the post's caption, Daniel describes the three-part story as coming from the mind of @spacekicker, otherwise known as Jeremy Adams. The writer has also penned his fair share of DC comics, including a few Batman titles, but is even more prolific for his work on The Flash.
He also credits Mark Morales as the inker. The multi-award-winning artist is famous for both Marvel titles like Avengers, X-Men, and The Amazing Spider-Man, as well as Justice League for DC.
While the artist does not credit a colorist in his social media post (possibly because that is his responsibility), Daniel assures that this Batman comic has been fully colored. He expects the title to be released sometime in 2026.
