Marvel Comics has announced an all-new Daredevil limited series at this year's New York Comic Con. A first look at the new series shows an older Matt Murdock's life after leaving Daredevil behind.

Fresh off the announcement that Marvel will reprint one of Dardevil's best series, the publisher announced a new entry into Matt Murdock's story. Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell will be a three-part limited release by Charles Soule (Star Wars) and Steve McNiven (Marvel's Civil War). The series marks McNiven's first major Marvel Comics work in nearly a decade, and Soule is also no stranger to Marvel or Matt Murdock, having worked on Daredevil comics in 2015. Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell will see the creative duo reunite once more in a way that's similar to McNiven's work on Old Man Logan. Set in the future of the Marvel Universe, Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell introduces an older and "grizzled" version of Matt Murdock, who is powerless and no longer Daredevil. The series will launch in April 2025.

Doing whatever he can to help those in need in a city broken beyond repair, he’ll finally be able to take the fight to where it matters most when something catastrophic happens, causing his powers to miraculously return. With no one by his side, Daredevil has little chance against the evil permeating every corner until Captain America entrusts him with a mission to safeguard the world’s only hope..."

Creators Say Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell Will "Take Risks"

Speaking in Marvel's press release announcing Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell, Soule teased that his working relationship with McNiven allowed him to take exciting risks with the story as the two collaborated on it. "I know whatever idea I write is going to be executed masterfully by Steve, and that level of trust allows you to take a lot of risks," he said. "It’s been a really interesting process because the way we made it is something I wouldn’t do with an artist that I didn’t have this level of collaboration and trust with. We’ve been working on this book for four years, and that time has been well spent."

McNiven also spoke about his influences and how Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell encouraged him to try different ways of telling the story. "I started out by going why are not more people learning from Frank [Miller] and the storytelling he does," McNiven said. "I was inspired by his work on Dark Knight Returns. To a certain degree, the structure of a 16-panel grid forces you to do different storytelling techniques."
