Dark Horse Comics has announced a spin-off to its fan-favorite cosmic horror graphic novel, Beyond Mortal. The publisher's upcoming comic series Jumpscare will introduce fans to its titular horror superhero this February.
Per Dark Horse, Beyond Mortal's creative team, Cullen Bunn and Danny Luckert, return to helm the upcoming four-issue limited series. Jumpscare is lettered by Jim Campbell. The publisher's Jumpscare description reads, "Strong, fast, and violent horror fan-turned-vigilante Jumpscare can conjure any gore-soaked weapon from any gore-soaked movie she’s watched. With this power, she's become a force for good in Empire City, hacking her way through ne'er-do-wells and monsters alike. Now, her enemies want her dead, and a mobster-turned-monster, Grindhouse, will do whatever he can to bring her down."

Jumpscare writer Bunn shared his excitement for the upcoming superhero horror comic series and the book's primary protagonist, described by Dark Horse as "Harley Quinn meets Elvira." "Hands down, Jumpscare is some of the most fun I've ever had writing a comic," Bunn said. "I absolutely love this character. She's everything I love about horror movies, everything I love about superheroes, everything I love about comics, all rolled into one character. If you're a horror fan, get ready to meet your new favorite superhero," the writer added.
Bunn's collaborator, Luckert, is equally enthused about the Beyond Mortal spinoff. "Jumpscare was just an absolute mayhem-fueled blast to draw. I can't wait for people to see her in all her horror-fueled glory," the artist stated.

The Beyond Mortal Universe
Dark Horse Comics' Jumpscare continues the expansion of Bunn and Lukert's superhero horror universe which began with the June 2024 arrival of Beyond Mortal. The graphic novel tells the story of a world "populated by daring superheroes battling for truth and justice... facing down power-mad masterminds and would-be world conquerors. But unknown to the league of heroes who protect the innocent, this world has cancer growing at its heart. A pantheon of elder gods is starting to awaken."
As these entities attempt to reclaim the planet, the superheroes engage in a seemingly hopeless battle to save the world from unimaginable horror. The first issue of the Beyond Mortal spinoff, Jumpscare, is now available for preorder and will arrive in comic book shops on February 26, 2025.
