DC Comics come to GlobalComix

1 month ago 6

DC is going bigger into digital – they’ve just announced a collaboration with GlobalComix to bring more than 100 DC series to the digital comics platform. It marks the first new platform to offer DC’s comics since the heyday of Comixology.

Starting today, titles including Batman, Superman, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Suicide Squad will be available to read on both the GlobalComix app and website.

Titles available at launch include:

    • DC’s flagship series BATMAN VOLUMES 1-7, written by award-winning writer Tom King
    • CATWOMAN VOLUMES 1-6: COPYCATS, written and drawn by Eisner Award nominee Joëlle Jones
    • DOOM PATROL VOLUMES 1-6, featuring Grant Morrison’s acclaimed run that put DOOM PATROL on the map and led to the critically acclaimed HBO MAX adaptation
    • THE JOKER VOLUMES 1-3,  from James Tynion IV
    • SWEET TOOTH VOLUMES 1-6, written and drawn by award-winning creator Jeff Lemire

christopher carter“DC is responsible for some of the most respected and revered pop culture icons and we are thrilled to offer hundreds of their iconic stories to our readers across the globe,” said Christopher Carter, CEO of GlobalComix in a statement. “With 400 books totaling approximately 75,000 pages, DC and DC Vertigo fans will have a wealth of content at their fingertips.”

GlobalComix has gradually emerged as the successor to Comixology in terms of offering a wide array of publishers – it already carries Image, Dark Horse, Boom, Vault, and many more, and has been moving into converting print comics into vertical scrolling comics via their Verticals program. Marvel and IDW are still available on Comixology – and Marvel has its Unlimited subscription program.

DC’s own digital plans seem to be ramping up. Just yesterday they announced DC Go!, their own line of vertical scrolling comics (webtoons.) Their regular output is available via DC Infinite Universe, their own monthly subscription service, as well as Comixology.

In the wake of Comixology’s absorption into Amazon’s Kindle program, several digital platforms entered a new space race – and GlobalComix has been the clear winner, with adding DC to its offering a huge get for them. Will Marvel eventually sign on the dotted line as well? Stay tuned.

Comics purchased on GloablComix can be read via iOS, Google Play, or the web. And readers will be able to get demos of GlobalComix’s DC Channel at New York Comic Con (Oct 17-20) at booth 3300.
