Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

There truly is not enough that can be said about the massive popularity of Absolute Batman. However, one testament to its success that certainly speaks volumes is the latest update to just one of its most notable chapters.

Soon to be hitting the comic book store shelves again is Absolute Batman: Ark-M #1 for its third printing in 2026 alone.

The one-shot takes the reader to 1940s Gotham City to explore the unsettling origins of the eponymous experimental program that Bruce Wayne fell prey to in the series' tenth issue, leading to one of the most iconic Absolute Batman moments yet. Additionally, the story reveals a terrifying secret behind one of the Absolute Universe's most fearsome threats and teases the expansion of The Dark Knight's rogues' gallery.

Absolute Batman: Ark-M #1 was first published on Jan. 7, following a delay from its intended Dec. 2025 release date. Just two months later, a second printing was made available that came out on March 18, specifically. Requests for a reprint from late bloomers to the smash hit series would quickly go on the rise.

Absolute Batman author Scott Snyder, who collaborated on Ark M #1 with co-writer Frank Tieri, shared in a social media post that May 11 is the final day that fans can preorder the latest edition of the acclaimed special with variant covers by Joshua Hixson and Javier Rodríguez.

Hixson, who has drawn several other notable Batman comics like Batman Secret Files and The Joker Presents: A Puzzlebox Vol. 11, filled in for Absolute Batman's main artist Nick Dragotta to illustrate Ark-M #1. Rodríguez was already a veteran of the Absolute Universe before the one-shot's initial release, having created Absolute Martian Manhunter with writer Deniz Camp.

Absolute Batman Reprints Are Nothing New For DC Comics

It may seem unusual for a one-shot to earn three printings within nearly half a year of its publishing, even one spun off from a comic as popular as this. Then again, the new edition of Absolute Batman: Ark-M #1 is only the latest instance of this happening for an issue of this very series.

In early 2026, DC Comics released the 10th print edition of Absolute Batman #1, which had originally launched in Oct. 2024. This version included a redesign of Nick Dragotta and colorist Frank Martin's original main cover for the issue, with a recolored logo, as well as foil variants by artist InHyuk Lee.

The remarkable milestone of ten printed editions of the same comic book within 15 months seems too good to be true. Then again, considering Absolute Batman's reputation as a series that has helped readers rediscover or even discover the medium and helped rival publishers like Image Comics boost profits, it makes perfect sense.

Absolute Batman #1 introduced fans to a whole new version of Bruce Wayne, who is a working-class construction worker inspired to use his larger-than-life physique and genius IQ to fight crime after witnessing his father's murder as a child. The twists on Gotham City lore would only get bigger from there, with the reveal that characters traditionally depicted as foes, like Waylon "Killer Croc" Jones, are childhood friends of Wayne's who become allies in his war against crime, alongside veteran MI-6 agent Alfred Pennyworth.

More recently, the series introduced the Absolute Robins, who are a team of young Gothamites formed to protect the city against what is believed to be its greatest threat, Absolute Batman. Readers can see them in action when Issue #20 hits the shelves on May 13.

The third printing of Absolute Batman: Ark-M #1 becomes available on June 3, 2026.
