Marvel celebrated the 900th issue of a Deadpool comic with a giant-size anthology, which is great because that means we get to read Deadpool stories that are NOT written by Daniel Wade.
It’s also worth noting that it took over 15 years to get to this point, but it will take only one year to get to issue #1000 in 2010.
The first story is by Jason Aaron and Chris Staggs. He fights aliens. Next he fights killer mimes.

It’s a silent story until the end, when Deadpool tells us that his eardrums have grown back and he can hear again. It’s a solid punchline by Fred Van Lente with really great art by Dalibor Talajic.
After that, Mike Benson takes Deadpool to the shrink, but of course Deadpool is really there to kill the doctor.
Next, Joe Kelly and Rob Liefeld reune to tell a short story, where we learn that Rob Liefeld still draws like Rob Liefeld.

That’s followed by a Duane Swierczynski joint where Deadpool goes to Vegas and kills a bunch of people.
And leaves a chicken at the crime scene.
Victor Gischler and Sanford Greene send Deadpool to a beach volleyball vacation where he fights Doctor Octopus.

To close it out, Charlie Huston and Kyle Baker essentially offer a prelude to their Deadpool MAX series coming next year. It’s not Earth 616 canon but man is it good.
Which will be dark as hell and delightfully violent.
Actually, that doesn’t close it out. There’s then a reprint of 1998’s Deadpool Team-Up #1, which also harkens to a “next year” title: The revival of DTU.

Special SUPER-sized, ACTION-packed 104-page special to commemorate Deadpool’s historic 900th issue! … Wait, has it really been nine-hundred issues…? Who cares! If this collection of octane-infused stories by some of comics’ hottest talent doesn’t make you want to genuflect at the Altar of Wade, nothing will. Thrill as the Merc with a Mouth squares off against probe-happy aliens, trigger-happy mimes and one seriously unhappy fanman – and that’s just half the book! Wince as Wade bares his soul (and lots more) to a shrink who’s got major squirrels in his own attic. Thrill as he travels around the globe and then some to settle a childhood bet. And chill as C.S.I. investigators at a blood-splattered crime scene attempt to piece together why this particular “unsub” needed battery cables, Crisco oil, three stacks of adult magazines and a live chicken to pull off the hit.
