Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
The defining achievement of Rob Liefeld's career is and likely will always be co-creating Deadpool. However, the writer and artist has plenty more up his sleeve.
For instance, he is one of the founders of Image Comics, which saw the launch of another one of his most notable creations, Youngblood, upon the company's debut. Well, fans of that superhero series are in for a real treat.
Giant-Size Youngblood #1 To Debut New Characters
The latest chapter in one of Rob Liefeld's most acclaimed comic book creations is quickly approaching with the highly anticipated release of Giant-Size Youngblood #1. The 72-page one-shot comes out next month through Image Comics.
The story, which involves the eponymous team of superheroes investigating a case on a mysterious island and its secret inhabitants, will not only feature the classic heroes fans know and love but will also introduce new characters. However, the debuts go further than that, as Image is also releasing variant covers designed by up-and-coming artists like Beniamino Bradi, Michael Pedro, and Reese Hannigan, who have been personally selected by Liefeld himself from an open submissions call.

He claims that the artists he recently discovered for this project, whom he has fittingly dubbed "the Young Bloods," really impressed him with their variant cover designs for Giant-Sized Youngblood.
The iconic comic book creator is also excited by what he has in store for longtime fans with the new special.
"Giant Size Youngblood #1 is chock full of signature moments that shape the future of the franchise! We re-introduce fan favorites The New Men, who were recently glimpsed in Youngblood #100. They will continue to play a key role in our titles from Youngblood to Badrock and beyond. But, most importantly, five all-new, never-before-seen characters emerge to aid Youngblood. These characters create the core of the new team line-up when Youngblood #101 returns this fall. Giant Size Youngblood #1 is their official first appearance.
Fans Have A "Summer of Youngblood" To Look Forward To

This refers to a season-long celebration of the long-awaited grand return of this franchise that helped usher in a new era for the comic book industry with Image at the forefront. Of course, who could also forget the debuts of classics like Todd McFarlane's Spawn, Jim Lee's WildC.A.T.s , and Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon in 1992?
The celebration was kicked off with the second printing of the 2025 release of Youngblood #100 and is to be followed by more exciting announcements regarding the franchise revealed throughout the season. The festivities will culminate with Liefeld's appearance at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.
Youngblood is the story of a group of superheroes who fight under the authority of the United States government and actually first appeared five years prior to their self-titled series debut as a backup feature in 1987's RAMM #1. The team consists of former FBI agent Shaft, a teenager who transforms into a sentient block of stone called Badrock, purple and white-skinned Russian fashion model Vogue, and government assassin Chapel.
The Youngblood series has been revived several times since it first emerged. Liefeld co-created the characters with writer Hank Kanalz, who is also known as the one-time Senior Vice President of Vertigo and Integrated Publishing at DC Comics.
Giant-Size Youngblood #1 hits the shelves on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
