Disney is reportedly developing an animated revival of Gargoyles, the darker 1990s series that challenged the family-friendly image of the Disney Afternoon. The project would arrive nearly three decades after the original show ended. The news came from Brent Spiner, who voiced Puck in Gargoyles. During the July 30 episode of the podcast Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny, Spiner said Disney had approved development of an animated revival. He also clarified that the project isn’t the live-action adaptation announced in 2023. Disney hasn’t officially announced the revival, so details about its release date, story, cast, and distribution remain unknown. For now, Spiner’s comments are the clearest sign that the studio is taking another look at the property. The original Gargoyles premiered during a period when Disney and Fox were battling for control of the after-school television audience. Disney’s lineup included DuckTales, TaleSpin, and Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Fox Kids countered with programs such as Tom and Jerry Kids and Peter Pan & the Pirates.
