Dark Horse Comics has announced the next installment in its line of Stranger Things comics, and this time it’s publishing a limited series send-off for one of the series’ most beloved (if short-lived) characters: Eddie Munson (played by Joseph Quinn).
Debuting in winter 2025, Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons: The Rise of Hellfire is a four-issue prequel comic that precedes the events of Stranger Things Season 4. It’s written by Jody Houser and Eric Campbell, illustrated by Diego Galindo, colored by Diana Sousa, and lettered by Nate Piekos. Issue #1 will feature variant covers by Magali Villanueve, Rebecca Pueblar, Jeremy Wilson, Nimit Malavia, and Kyle Lambert.
The crossover comic follows Eddie’s “rise to de facto leader of the Hellfire Club” with flashbacks to the campaign that forged his love for Dungeons & Dragons and how he recruited Lucas, Mike, and Dustin. It also provides glimpses into some of the fantasy words they explored at the table before real-life monsters entered their lives.
“Jody Houser and Eric Campbell have expertly woven together two beloved IPs to spotlight Eddie Munson’s pure heart as he fosters the heroes in all those around him and celebrate how Dungeons and Dragons can strengthen the bonds of friendship,” said senior editor Spencer Cushing. “What better way to honor the 50th anniversary of a beloved game than through the nostalgic lens of Stranger Things?”
Houser added, “As soon as I saw Stranger Things Season 4, I knew the story of Eddie Munson and the Hellfire Club would be a perfect sequel to our Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons miniseries. Both Eric and I are very familiar with how D&D forges friendships and storytellers, and it’s been wonderful exploring Hawkins through that lens.”
Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons: The Rise of Hellfire #1 (of 4) will be available at your local comic shop and digitally on February 19, 2025. It’s now available for pre-order for $3.99.
