Legendary Comics has dropped a brand-new trailer for its upcoming graphic novel adaptation of Mary Shelley's iconic 1818 Frankenstein novel, featuring the legendary Boris Karloff. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Starring Boris Karloff, will hit comic book stands in November.
Legendary Comics' one-minute black-and-white trailer showcases the titular Dr. Frankenstein, creating fiction's most famous monster. Scenes inspired by the novel play out as the creature is shunned and feared by his maker and the public. The story is "reimagined with one of the original horror icons, Boris Karloff," according to the teaser. Karloff posthumously reprises his role as the character in the graphic novel after starring Frankenstein's monster in James Whale's classic 1931 movie adaptation of Shelley's novel.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Starring Boris Karloff features the artistic talents of Kerry Gammill and El Garing, the team behind Legendary Comics' award-winning Bram Stoker's Dracula Starring Bela Lugosi, which debuted four years ago. The upcoming graphic novel is guaranteed "to delight and terrify old and new fans alike."
The Legendary Comics' Inspirations For the Frankenstein Graphic Novel
Shelley's 1818 novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, tells the tale of a young scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who creates the eponymous sapient creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. A fusion of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement, Frankenstein is one of the most well-known works of English literature. The book still maintains considerable influence on literature and popular culture, spawning a genre of horror stories, plays, and movies.

Karloff starred as Frankenstein's monster in 1931's Frankenstein adapted from a 1927 play by Peggy Webling, which was based on Shelley's novel. Directed by Whale and produced by Carl Laemmle Jr. and Universal Pictures, the film also starred Colin Clive as Henry Frankenstein, Mae Clarke, John Boles, Dwight Frye, and Edward Van Sloan.
Frankenstein became a commercial success upon release and was generally well-received by critics and audiences. It spawned several sequels and spin-offs and has had a significant impact on popular culture. The "a maniacal mad scientist with a hunchbacked assistant" imagery and the film's depiction of Karloff as Frankenstein's monster have since become iconic.
Legendary Comics' Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Starring Boris Karloff will arrive in comic book shops on November 12.
