Mad Cave Studios has announced its first-ever R-rated series, and The Beat can exclusively reveal the details—including a first look at interior art from issue #1. Debuting in February 2025, Pop Kill is a mature humor comic co-written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Dave Johnson, with art by Juan Santacruz, colors by Brian Reber, and letters by Sean Konot. The series initially launched on Kickstarter in 2020 but now joins the Mad Cave catalog.
Pop Kill follows conjoined twins who hate each other post-separation and own competing cola companies each worth billions. Every day, they hire assassins, saboteurs, and more to meddle in each other’s lives and businesses. Per the solicit text, “This is the story about brotherly love run afoul, and the people they enlist to do their dirty work.”
“Pop Kill is a sexy spy-driven crime story about two brothers’ obsession and the fallout from their bad behavior,” said Palmiotti in the announcement. “It’s nothing you have ever read before. Dave Johnson and the entire Pop Kill team are so excited we are finally able to bring this series to the public from one of the coolest companies in comics today, Mad Cave.”
Johnson added, “Pop Kill seeing the light of day has been a dream come true. Humor, violence, sex, and SODA! What else could you want out of a series?”
The Beat can share interior art from issue #1 and the main cover art by Johnson below. You can also check out a variant cover by Dan Panosian and a 1/10 copy incentive cover by Amanda Conner.
In addition to the covers above, Pop Kill #1 will feature an explicit variant by Brian Stelfreeze. The issue goes on sale at your local comic shop and via digital retailers on February 26, 2025.
