From Tom Cruise to Chris Hemsworth: Some Movie Stars Showing Fan Gratitude Amid Industry Challenges

4 days ago 5

Tom Cruise has been one of the biggest movie stars in the world for decades. As such, every part of his life, from his movies to his beliefs, is watched closely by fans and the media. Few celebrities know this kind of attention, but for the past several years Cruise always seems to handle it with grace. And lately, perhaps more effusively than in the past, Cruise has been sharing a simple message: thank you.

As Christian Toto reported last week, Cruise recently posted the following Instagram message of thanks,

“This weekend was one for the history books! Congratulations and thank you to every filmmaker, every artist, every crew member and every single person who works at the studios. To every theater and every employee who helps bring these stories to audiences, thank you.” He continued, “[t]o everyone that works at Paramount Pictures and Skydance, thank you for your many years of partnership and unwavering support. And most of all, THANK YOU to audiences everywhere for whom we all serve and for whom we all LOVE to entertain. Sincerely, Tom.”

Cruise’s words are simple, direct, and sincere. Perhaps that’s why some people call him “The Last Movie Star.” Now it looks like Chris Hemsworth is following Cruise’s example. Hemsworth, probably best known for playing Thor in the MCU movies, is currently filming “Avengers: Doomsday.” Even with his busy schedule, Hemsworth took time to thank everyone who has been part of his Marvel journey.

He posted the following video on social media showing his time as Thor:

Hemsworth says in the video that “[p]laying Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I’ve held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me,” adding “Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!”

Hemsworth doesn’t have to do this. He could have talked about how tough it is to get in shape for Thor or how hard it is to promote the movies. But instead, he chose to thank the fans and everyone who works behind the scenes. Why do Chris Pratt, Jenna Ortega, Tom Cruise, and Chris Hemsworth and only a few others do this? Maybe they know how lucky they are to make movies for a living and to bring joy to people. It’s also a smart way to get moviegoerss excited for new movies, especially when the movie business is facing huge challenges like streaming, shorter theater runs, and new technology.

Will more stars follow their example and start showing similar gratitude? We can only hope. The industry needs more of it.
