George Reeves’ Lost Birthplace and the Superman Legacy of Woolstock, Iowa

Located in Wright County, the town was the birthplace of George Reeves, the actor who would go on to become one of the most familiar faces associated with Superman through his starring role in the landmark 1950s television series, "The Adventures of Superman". Born George Keefer Brewer on Jan. 5, 1914, Reeves spent only the earliest part of his life in Woolstock before leaving Iowa with his mother for California, but the connection between the actor and the town endured long after his Hollywood career had made him famous. Over the years, several homes, businesses and other locations in Woolstock became associated with Reeves and his family, while the town itself developed a number of tributes celebrating its connection to the actor and the Superman character he portrayed.
