Jason Aaron has single-handedly raised the bar for this book. (I know the artists are solid, too, but let’s face it: Aaron has a vision for this character unlike any before him, and Ghost Rider is a very, very hared character to make work. Just ask Nic Cage.)

So why is there an annual by Simon Spurrier? I mean, it can’t possibly measure up. And it doesn’t. It also doesn’t connect to the ongoing storyline, so at least it doesn’t detract from the series–and honestly, sometimes that’s the most you can hope for from a one-shot.

Johnny Blaze fights a demonic monster in Idaho who is loosely connected to Zadkiel.
