‘Hooters: The Movie’ Heads Into Production

Hooters is heading to the big screen. Hooters: The Movie will tell the story of how the restaurant chain grew from one Florida location in 1983 into a national brand known for chicken wings and its signature orange shorts. The independent film will follow Ted and Lenny, two friends from Iowa who travel to Clearwater Beach after Ted becomes interested in Diane, a woman he sees in a spring break commercial. Diane later becomes the first Hooters Girl. According to the film’s official description, the friends “accidentally launch a national restaurant empire” before facing a threat from the federal government. The story is based on real events, although director Jon Rosenbaum described it as “mostly true.” “It’s the perfect combination of a hilarious buddy comedy and an inspiring biopic for a beloved American brand,” Rosenbaum said. “Two lifelong friends with no idea what they’re getting themselves into, a crazy idea they’re willing to bet everything on, and a wild journey that culminates in the creation of something bigger than they could ever have imagined.” Rosenbaum will direct the film from a screenplay by Hooters co-founder Ed Droste, Phil Olson and Chuck Melcher.
