Jailbreak: AI Hacked Emulator Unlocks PS2 Games on PS5

PlayStation 5 owners have found a way to play physical PlayStation 2 discs on Sony’s current console, but only if they hack the system first. A new emulator called PS5SX2 can read compatible PS2 DVDs, copy the game to the console’s storage, and launch it through emulation. The project was built by a developer known as Sword. It is a port of PCSX2, a long-running PlayStation 2 emulator for PCs, and Sword has said the work was assisted by the Claude AI tool. The emulator runs as a native app on a jailbroken PlayStation 5, meaning a console modified to run unauthorized software. PS5SX2 version 2.01 added physical disc support on October 10. When a supported PS2 disc is inserted, the software dumps its contents to storage and then boots the game. Version 2.02 has since expanded the feature, and videos shared online show games including Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier running from disc. PS2 discs. Straight into a PS5. 20+ years of nostalgia, one disc away.
