James Gunn’s DCU TV Plans Just Hit Another HBO Roadblock

HBO has no new DCU series in development beyond Lanterns, according to HBO chief Casey Bloys. That news raises fresh questions about whether James Gunn’s promised TV universe is moving ahead as planned. When Gunn unveiled his DCU plan in 2023, he promised movies and television shows would work together. The film side has moved ahead with Superman, Supergirl, Clayface, and Man of Tomorrow. The TV side has included Creature Commandos on HBO Max, plus Peacemaker and Lanterns on HBO. But several announced projects, including Paradise Lost, Waller, and Booster Gold, have not moved forward. Asked by Deadline whether HBO has more DCU shows in the pipeline after Lanterns, Bloys answered, “No, not right now.” That does not include the animated Creature Commandos or the live-action crime mockumentary The People v. Gorilla Grodd, which has started filming. Bloys said, “I’m very happy about doing something different, and I think it’s a really fun idea.
