Judge Dredd: Rend and Tear With Tooth and Claw & Judge Dredd: And to the Sea Return

Reviews Tom Shapira | September 17, 2026 Rebellion Press had recently graced my shelves with two new collections of Judge Dredd stories: Rend & Tear With Tooth & Claw and To the Sea Return. Two pretty good collections, overall, and certainly worthy of engagement as the future of the (sorry for that word) franchise. John Wagner, co-creator and main writer of the strip over last five decades, announced his retirement from Judge Dredd , and it takes a whole crop of writers to fill those boots. Both trades in question are written by Rob Williams, by some margin the most popular of the new crop of Judge Dredd writers, both are (mostly) standalone stories with no need for wider context, both are composed of two medium length stories and both go about fully utilizing the talents of spectacular artists: R.M. Guéra and Henry Flint, respectively. Each gives a definite, and defiant, demonstration of their style. If these stories succeed, they succeed because of the strength of their artists. And while most of the modern crop of British talent hasn’t quite risen to the level of Ron Smith, Cam Kennedy or Mick McMahon, these two show a possible path forward. The Bear Necessities "Rend &a...
