Stanley Kubrick’s 13 feature films remain known for their technical skill, layered symbolism, and complex themes. His final movie, Eyes Wide Shut, has also become the center of one of Hollywood’s most persistent conspiracy theories. Released in 1999, four months after Kubrick’s death, Eyes Wide Shut has fueled claims that Warner Bros. removed 20 minutes of footage before its theatrical release. The rumored scenes supposedly showed a child sacrifice and a much darker ending. According to the theory, the studio altered Kubrick’s final vision. Roger Avery, an Academy Award-winning screenwriter, director, and producer in his own right, mentioned the original set script he had from Eyes Wide Shut in a discussion on the Joe Rogan podcast with Quentin Tarantino, and he insists the film was changed after Kubrick’s death and discussed some of the conspiracy theories surrounding it.
