DC Studios is still moving forward with its rebooted universe, but one long-discussed project remains stuck in neutral. The planned Teen Titans movie has not gained real traction, even as other titles push ahead.
DC co-CEO James Gunn addressed the film earlier this week while responding to a rumor on Threads. A fan asked about reports that Euphoria creator Sam Levinson might direct the project. Gunn shut that down and said the studio is not speaking with any directors right now. “We’re not talking to directors quite yet,” Gunn wrote.
That statement suggests the film is not canceled, but it also shows how early things still are. No director is attached, and the script appears unfinished. Gunn said in 2024 that the screenplay had not been completed, and there has been no confirmed update since.
The delay fits a pattern at DC Studios under Gunn and Peter Safran. The studio has taken a strict approach to development. Projects do not move forward unless the script meets a high standard. That policy has slowed progress on several titles, including The Authority, Paradise Lost, and The Brave and the Bold.

In fact, The Authority, which was tied to Superman, has been put on hold because the script did not meet expectations. That decision signals a larger shift in how DC handles risk. The studio appears more willing to delay or shelve projects rather than release a weak entry.
Teen Titans has never been officially locked into DC’s main slate, which may explain its slow movement. Even with past interest from major filmmakers, it has not become a priority. Director Paul Thomas Anderson once mentioned the property during a Q&A for Phantom Thread, but that comment dates back to 2018. There is no sign he is still involved or interested.
Meanwhile, writer Ana Nogueira, who was linked to Teen Titans, has shifted focus to a new Wonder Woman film. That move leaves the project without a confirmed writer. DC Studios has not announced a replacement.
Other films appear to be moving ahead faster. The Brave and the Bold, written by Christina Hodson, is gaining momentum as DC works to reintroduce Batman. The studio seems focused on building out core characters before taking risks on team-based films.
The last live-action version of the group came in HBO Max’s Teen Titans series Titans. The show ran for four seasons but drew mixed reactions from fans and critics. That history may also weigh on how quickly DC moves forward with a new version.
For now, the future of Teen Titans remains uncertain, like so many DCY projects. The project is clearly not a priority as DC Studios tries to stabilize its broader franchise.
