Long Beach Playhouse Announces 2026 Production of "It's a Bird… It's a Plane… It's Superman!"

The Long Beach Playhouse is pleased to announce that Foster Cat Productions will present the 1966 Broadway musical "It's a Bird… It's a Plane… It's Superman!" in the Studio Theatre beginning February 20th, 2026. This vibrant and witty reimagining of the iconic superhero story brings the legendary Man of Steel to the stage in a production that blends classic comic-book charm with Broadway style.

The musical follows mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent as he navigates a romantic entanglement with Lois Lane, rivalry with an ambitious fellow journalist, and the threat of a vengeful scientist determined to expose and undermine Superman. Featuring music and lyrics by the celebrated team behind Annie and Bye Bye Birdie, the production showcases the work of distinguished, award-winning writers whose contributions have shaped both stage and screen, including the 1978 film "Superman".

Presented as part of the Playhouse's Studio Collaborative season, the production gives independent theatre companies the opportunity to bring unique and engaging works to Long Beach audiences. Performances will be held on February 20th, 21st, 22nd, 27th, and 28th, with a final performance on March 1st. Tickets are priced at $35.00, with an additional $4.00 service fee for online purchases, and seating is assigned. Guests should be aware that the Studio Theatre is located on the second floor and accessible only by stairs.
