It’s time for a little throwback Thursday! So, to be completely honest, I’ve been playing a lot of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics lately, so it’s pretty awesome that I get to see three of my favorite characters share a comic book in 2025… even if it means them trying to rip each other’s brains out. Seeing Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Omega Red, having their own little battle royale brings me back to the good ol’ days, truly. Even the art for this new series is a bit of a throwback to my own personal Golden Age of the 90s. Throw in a tumultuous team-up between Wolverine and Spidey, some epic hitman, spy and espionage action, with a very shocking cliffhanger to close it all, I think we’re getting one of the better Spider-Man books this year, actually. I’m sticking around to see this title through, for sure.

THWIKT! Did you hear that? That sound can only mean one thing: two of your favorite Marvel heroes doing what they do best! With great power, there must also come…the best there is! SPIDER-MAN & WOLVERINE team up for the biggest adventure in Marvel comics! Who or what is targeting this unlikely duo, and what can they do to stop it? Get ready for a nonstop thrill ride of big villains, bigger threats and even bigger surprises as LOGAN and PETER PARKER team up against the machinations of a plot too big for just one hero…
PROS:
- It was cool to see Spider-Man and Wolverine switch places and go through each other’s traumatic pasts. Kraven, Omega Red, and Mysterio, were all able to work together and trap the dynamic duo and put them through a series of illusions, making them relive the other’s worst memories. It made me realize that while Logan and Peter Parker can be so different at times, maybe they are more alike than they actually initially believed.
- Tracking down a top-secret list of double agents and their respective missions that could potentially endanger thousands of lives is not necessarily a totally new plot, but it does serve this team-up well. We all know Logan has had a very shady past, and we also know that Spider-Man’s parents were secret agents themselves. It felt just right trying to explore and go down memory lane with the two. And it also set up the crazy ending to the first issue. I think we’re being misled to believe that Wolverine killed or murdered Peter Parker’s family. But for a split second, I was shocked good. Well played.
- The art is so nice to just take in and absorb, and I was instantly taken back to the 90s. The vibe and style… and really just the overall feel of dialogue mixed with the pencils and colors just kind of zapped me to my younger years. It’s quite fitting considering it’s a series about digging up truths about the past.
CONS:
- I feel like Mysterio being suddenly inserted felt a bit forced. Although it was entertaining to see so much mayhem taking place, I think the line-up of villains could have been better spread throughout the series so that each dastardly character gets enough time to shine under the spotlight. But hey, what are you going to do about it? Villains flock together. Deal with it, right?
FINAL GRADE: A
As mentioned earlier, there’s just a certain aura and magic when it comes to the 90s. With a game like Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, I find myself just reminiscing about the simpler times where we just got straightforward, in-your-face, no-holds-barred comic book or superhero action. And this new series is starting to bring back that sensational, amazing, spectacular kind of feeling. What I will be looking forward to is seeing how Wolverine plays a role in the deaths of Spider-Man’s parents. I’m pretty sure he was there to help them out, and things may have just turned out for the worst. But in any case, it seems that we will be getting a huge Spider-Man and Wolverine duel in the next chapter. So start placing your bets, because I have the fight fairly even right now based on the odds. You know what? That gives me an idea. I might just go on to simulate it later tonight when I play some Marvel Super Heroes.
