Marvel Brings Back Spider-Man’s Most Controversial Girlfriend for 60th Anniversary Event

Spider-Man fans are getting another 60th anniversary celebration, and this time it's all about Mary Jane.

Marvel Comics has officially unveiled Mary Jane: Fact It, Tiger #1, an upcoming one-shot anthology comic set to be released in celebration of Mary Jane Watson's 60th anniversary. Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1 will offer readers a myriad of stories set across the many eras of Spider-Man, charting Mary Jane's journey from a surprising romantic interest to one of the most storied superheroes of an entire generation.

The official solicit synopsis for Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1 from Marvel Comics reads, "MARY JANE: FACE IT, TIGER features a lineup of renowned writers including legendary Spider-Man scribes J.M. DeMatteis, J. Michael Straczynski, and Ann Nocenti, along with rising star Ashley Allen. They’re joined by an all-star group of artists, including Phil Noto, Alina Erofeeva, Andrea Broccardo, Luigi Zagaria — ensuring Mary Jane will look her very best!"

Fans can also look forward to celebrating Mary Jane Watson's 60th anniversary with an upcoming lineup of variant covers showcasing the character at her very best. Marvel has already promised that these new covers will be "a runway-worthy collection" from some of the fans' favorite artists.

Marvel Comics editor Nick Lowe opened up about the upcoming one-shot, noting, "Since we first saw her in ASM #42, we ALL hit the jackpot! Mary Jane has had one heck of a journey from supporting character in a love triangle all the way to superhero! It's super rare for a supporting character to become a main character, but Ms. Watson is one of those rare breeds, and we're all lucky to be a part of her story!"

Currently, Mary Jane Watson is preparing to finally shed the events of one of Marvel Comics' most harrowing crossover eventsDeath Spiral. The Spider-Man/Venom crossover series has seen Peter Parker, Mary Jane, and Eddie Brock all dragged into the path of a terrifying serial killer, one who is privy to all their secrets, Torment, who was set to cut down everyone even tangentially related to them as the literal death spiral creeps ever closer to those at its center. Now that the threat of Torment is settled, however, Mary Jane can continue with her other endeavors as Marvel Comics' All-New Venom.
