Marvel Comics Has Finally Created Its Own Boba Fett

Ever since Boba Fett appeared in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, he has stolen the imaginations of Star Wars fans. Originally appearing in the Star Wars Holiday Special segment titled The Story of the Faithful Wookie, it wasn't until the character showed up on the big screen that he really caught on as a fan favorite — even despite him doing very little of note in the film itself.

With such aura, however, come near-impossible expectations for other similar characters to match, though many have tried. Even Boba Fett himself failed to live up to his own unreachable expectations when he was finally given his own stand-alone series, as The Book of Boba Fett was a disappointment for even some of the most hardcore Star Wars fans. However, it seems Marvel has finally found its answer to the Boba Fett problem in a most surprising character.

Frenzah's Relationship With Mephisto Mirrors Boba Fett's Relationship With Darth Vader

In Captain America #12, Steve Rogers finds himself in a coma, which results in his soul becoming linked with Doctor Doom's during his trip to Hell. Cap is therefore forced to work with Doctor Doom to survive in Mephisto's realm. Which, under normal circumstances, would never happen — but Doctor Doom hates Mephisto, and therefore waging war is the only way out of this particular conflict.

This is where Frenzah is introduced. His entire intro scene parallels Boba Fett's introduction to The Empire Strikes Back, in that Mephisto is looking for a bounty hunter to do his bidding. After warning Frenzah of how dangerous a foe Steve Rogers can prove to be, he reminds the mantis-looking bounty hunter that they want Cap found, not destroyed. This mirrors Darth Vader reminding Boba Fett that there was to be "no disintegrations" in his pursuit of Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back.

Marvel Can Finally Capitalize On A Character's Mystique To Create Their Own Original Trilogy-Era Boba Fett

With the introduction of Frenzah in Mephisto's hunt for Captain America, it seems Marvel is finally taking its big swing at introducing their very own Boba Fett-style character. Of course, the iconic publisher needs to be careful not to step on any toes and tread lightly. While the homage during Frenzah's introduction was a fun moment for Captain America #12, they can't rely on callbacks and references in upcoming issues. Marvel Comics — and, more specifically, writer Chip Zdarsky — needs to give the character their own identity as he becomes fodder for the Man Out of Time in the story's next chapters.

At the very least, Marvel Comics has added some true intrigue to their current Captain America run, with an extremely well-designed bounty hunter being introduced into the mix. After all, Boba Fett got so popular based primarily on a great design, so Frenzah has every opportunity to capitalize on that same momentum. Valerio Schiti outdid himself when bringing Captain America fans such a stunning new villain for everyone's favorite Avenger to contend with.

Captain America #12 is readable wherever comics are sold.
