Marvel Comics celebrates the life and work of the late, great Peter David by showcasing his greatest comics on social media.

In a May 27 X(Twitter) post from the official Marvel Entertainment social media account, covers from iconic comics including Spider-Man 2099 #1, X-Factor #1, and The Incredible Hulk #376 and #420 were shared to highlight some of the most indelible moments of the late Peter David's career at the publisher. The post was shared along with a caption reading, "Marvel pauses to remember Peter David, whose brilliant writing defined the Marvel Universe and the entire comics medium. His clever storytelling and unbound creativity shaped the Hulk, X-Factor, and more, and his work went on to inspire millions. Our hearts are with his family."

Two of the greatest characters in Marvel and DC Comics history are about to meet their match in each other when the next big crossover arrives.

It was reported on May 25 that David had passed sometime on the evening of May 24. The news was confirmed by his wife, Kathleen O'Shea David, who wrote on social media, "Since it is out there. Peter David passed away last night. We are devastated. More when I can write about it." David is survived by his wife and his four children, Caroline Helen David, Shana David, Ariel David, and Guinevere David.

Peter David's career in comics began in the Marvel Sales Department well after establishing himself in journalism and as a novelist. When David made the move to the Marvel Editorial Offices, it came as a major shift not just for him personally, but for the company as a whole, which had a long-standing if unwritten rule against employees working across departments. Despite this, David went on to establish himself as one of the most prolific and, ultimately, one of the most important writers in Marvel history, not to mention in the medium of comic books as a whole.

Peter David's more than decade-long run on The Incredible Hulk served to help define the character on a deeper, more nuanced level, and eventually reshaped the Hulk mythos into the layered, character-driven pillar of the Marvel Universe that it is today. His work on The Incredible Hulk earned David an Eisner Award alongside artist Dale Keown in 1992, which is just one of the many accolades David amassed in his lifetime. Among the other notable awards he received are the 2007 Julie Award for achievements in multiple genres, and the 2011 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comic Book for his run on X-Factor Volume 3, which debuted in 2006.
