Marvel Comics has announced a new Ultimate Wolverine comic series at this year's New York Comic Con. The new series will make its debut in January of next year.
Written by rising star Chris Condon (Venom War: Daredevil) and drawn by Alessandro Cappuccio (Moon Knight), Ultimate Wolverine stays true to the character's origins as a government weapon. The Ultimate Wolverine is an unwilling agent of The Maker, the Former leader of the Ultimate Universe's Fantastic Four. Now, Ultimate Wolverine is mindwiped and used as an assassin, and he's still the best at his job...even if he's no longer in control of who he's targeting. Ultimate Wolverine #1 goes on sale Jan. 15, and Marvel revealed the main cover, variant artwork and an original design sheet featuring Ultimate Wolverine's costume.

In teasing Ultimate Wolverine, Marvel revealed that three members of the Maker's council -- the mutants Magik, Colossus and Omega Red -- will deploy The Winter Soldier during the story. Before Ultimate Wolverine arrives in January, readers will see the character in action when Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1, a prelude story by Condon and Cappuccio, arrives in December. The special one-shot concludes the first year of Marvel's new Ultimate Universe and sets up a new year of stories, including the Maker's return for Ultimate Wolverine.
Ultimate Wolverine Writer Teases The Character's "Wild" Nature
Ultimate Wolverine writer Chris Condon spoke in Marvel's press release announcing the new series, talking about the time he was asked to helm the new series and the ideas he brought to the table. "When Wil Moss called me and asked me if I wanted to take on this title, I jumped at the chance and immediately had an idea of what to do with it," he said. "You might notice that there’s a Red Star on his costume, and you might wonder why. If you look at that mask, there’s a muzzle on him, and that’s because he’s wild."

Marvel's Ultimate Universe imprint began in 2023, with Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch's Ultimate Invasion limited series showing The Maker (Reed Richards of Earth-1610) making a new world order and creating the Ultimate Universe. Since its debut, the Ultimate Universe has spawned numerous ongoing series, including Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men and The Ultimates, all of which debuted in 2024. Ultimate Wolverine is the first new Ultimate Universe title to be released in 2025.
Ultimate Wolverine #1 goes on sale January 15 from Marvel Comics.
