Marvel’s All-New Venom Finally Reveals Exactly How She Became the World’s Premier Symbiote Superhero

1 month ago 15

The following contains major spoilers for All-New Venom #6, on May 7 now from Marvel Comics.

Marvel Comics' All-New Venom is finally ready to reveal exactly how her new symbiotic connection came to be - and it is tragic.

A preview of All-New Venom #6 from Marvel Comics finds Mary Jane Watson recalling the most recent nightmarish chapter of her life, specifically what she went through during the events of the recently concluded Venom War. As it turns out, it was during her battle against and within the monstrous Arachniote when she first bonded with Venom, albeit not in the way fans are used to seeing play out between host and symbiote. When Venom took hold of Mary Jane's superpowered gauntlet, it formed an unlikely connection with her that neither of them fully understand, although they understand perfectly well that parting ways would be the death of them both.

Before the events of Marvel Comics' Venom War, Mary Jane Watson took up the superhero mantle of Jackpot, which she debuted in the pages of 2023's Amazing Spider-Man #31 by Zeb Wells, John Romita Jr., Emilio Laiso, and Ze Carlos. During her time trapped in an apocalyptic alternate reality, Mary Jane met and joined forces with her future beau and crime-fighting partner, Paul Raben, who developed a gauntlet that can channel semi-random superpowers through the use of arcane symbols. With this gauntlet, Mary Jane proved to be a capable if still largely inexperienced hero in her own right.

It was in 2024's Venom War: Spider-Man #1 by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Greg Land when Mary Jane first crossed paths with the near-incomprehensible Arachniote. This ancient monstrosity, known as the All-Hunger by its fellow symbiotes, is an ancient and legendary beast comprised of individual symbiotes who fused together and cut off their access from the wider symbiote hive-mind. As a veritable force of nature unto itself, the Arachniote was a threat to even the progenitor of all symbiotes, Knull, especially because of its ability to fully subsume any who fall into its gaping maw.

While Mary Jane was busy facing off against the Arachniote, Marvel's Venom War saw Eddie Brock and his son Dylan standing on opposite sides of an all-too-important battlefield. While the event ended with the apparent destruction of the Venom symbiote, it wasn't long before the All-New Venom broke onto the scene to reassure fans everywhere that it had very much survived.

In doing so, the All-New Venom kicked off a mystery as to the identity of their true host, who was previously believed to be one of four suspects including Luke Cage, Rick Jones, Madame Masque, and Robbie Robertson.
