The following contains major spoilers for Iron Man #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
One of Tony Stark's worst enemies is just the latest to set her sights on everything he has ever owned.
Iron Man #1 finds the titular hero making his way into the Stark Unlimited boardroom for a meeting in which he explicitly lays out his plans to remove his company from the weapons manufacturing industry altogether. Unfortunately for him, the rest of the board aren't nearly as excited at the prospect of giving up on their biggest cash cow. Even worse, a new top investor is there to make their plans for the future perfectly clear, and Monica Rappaccini, better known as A.I.M.'s Scientist Supreme, has no problems with drawing Iron Man's ire as she does so.

Introduced in the pages of 2005's Amazing Fantasy #7 by writer Fred Van Lente and arist Leonard Kirk, Monica Rappaccini was a brilliant scientist who sought out Bruce Banner under the guise of embarking upon a genuine relationship, only to steal away as many of his secrets as she could manage. This garnered Monica her very own Nobel Prize based on Banner's antitoxin research, yet she quickly became disillusioned with making the world a better place. Instead, Monica embarked on a career as an overt villain, eventually finding herself a place within the ranks of A.I.M. as its Scientist Supreme.
In the years since her debut, Monica Rappaccini has played a key role in numerous Marvel Comics storylines. Usually, these involve her ongoing rivalry with M.O.D.O.K., whose frequent obsession with claiming the mantle of Scientist Supreme has put him at odds with his fellow A.I.M. members. Apart from the similarly villainous M.O.D.O.K. himself, Monica has also made a recurring theme of betraying nearly anyone who gets too close to her, even if their interests seem to align.

Marvel Comics' current Iron Man series picks up shortly after the end of the Krakoan Era and the war against Orchis. Over recent years, readers have seen as Orchis' very own Kelvin Heng, better known as Fei Long, orchestrated a hostile takeover of Stark Unlimited, ultimately using Iron Man's own resources to create an army of superpowered Stark Sentinels. This drove Tony to craft the most powerful suits of Iron Man armor fans have ever seen, all before launching one final attack against the anti-mutant organization that was very nearly the death of his own legacy.
