Marvel’s Ultimate Comics kicks off year two with new foil covers by Benjamin Su

Ultimate Comics is entering its second year very soon, and in celebration, Marvel Comics is debuting some brand-new foil covers. The hottest-selling comics in the industry of 2024, a new ONE YEAR IN FOIL VARIANT drawn by acclaimed cover artist and Pixar animator Benjamin Su will debut for the 13th issue of all the Ultimate titles including Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, and Ultimates—Marvel’s comics new take on the Avengers.

Su’s work includes being the animation director of Elemental (2023), along with working with the animation departments for acclaimed hits such as Turning Red (2022), 9 (2009), and Brave (2012). You can read more about it in Marvel’s official press release below.

At the start of the year, Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto kicked off Marvel Comics’ new Ultimate line with Ultimate Spider-Man #1, a visionary take on Marvel’s most iconic character that set the standard for the first wave of Ultimate titles including Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, and Ultimates. Each series has captured readers’ imaginations, and to mark a year of extraordinary storytelling, the 13^th issues of Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, and Ultimates will feature a ONE YEAR IN FOIL VARIANT COVER by acclaimed cover artist and Pixar animator Benjamin Su.

Told in real-time, each consecutive issue of the Ultimate titles takes place a month apart. This fast-paced storytelling means the lives of Peter Parker and T’Challa of Earth-6160 have changed dramatically as they head into Year Two. Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Black Panther’s ONE YEAR IN FOIL COVERS depict them facing their greatest challenges. See Spidey become prey as Kraven embarks on his ultimate hunt and Black Panther risk his soul to acquire the mysterious Sorcerer Supreme’s aid in Wakanda’s war against Moon Knight.
