Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
The following article contains spoilers for Ultimate Universe: Finale #1.
The iconic Spider-Man villain-turned-anti-hero known as Venom is most commonly associated with Eddie Brock. Of course, the slimy parasitic alien known as the Symbiote has wreaked havoc on or protected the Marvel Universe with many other people serving as its human host over the years.
Well, it appears that Marvel's Ultimate Universe has found a new character to be dubbed its official Venom. And surely no one is more upset about the development than Peter Parker.
Spider-Man's Daughter Becomes Venom in Ultimate Universe: Finale #1
The leading "Ultimate Spider-Man" segment of Ultimate Universe: Finale #1 ends by confirming that May Parker, the daughter of Peter and Mary-Jane, wears the timeline's man-made equivalent of the Symbiote-infused black Spider suit. Thus, this young child is this imprint's official Venom.
The story, written by Jonathan Hickman and featuring Marco Checchetto's artwork, sees the Parkers attending a parent-teacher conference where they discover that May has been cutting class. As it turns out, she has been borrowing a special piotech suit belonging to her older brother, Richard, to indulge in some webslinging of her own.
Instead of bringing one of Marvel's most acclaimed timelines as of late to an official close like expected, Ultimate Universe: Finale #1 serves as a prologue for the next phase of this imprint. The one-shot anthology comic, also featuring stories for the likes of Ultimate Black Panther and Peach Momoko's Ultimate X-Men, concludes with a promise that the Ultimate Universe will return.
Thus, fans can expect to see more of May Parker in action with her new Venom suit. Seeing the young girl transition from the child of a superhero to a superhero herself will be quite an interesting sight to see whenever the Ultimate Universe makes its grand comeback.
May Is Only The Latest Of Spider-Man's Family Members To Go Venom Lately
Image via MarvelThe reveal that May Parker is the current wearer of a symbiotic suit a la Venom is certainly an amusing surprise. However, curiously, it is actually the latest instance of an ongoing trend in Marvel Comics as of late.
In fact, before May got her hands on the suit, Richard took the place of the Ultimate Universe's Venom. He uses the piotech suit to fight side by side with his father, the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Meanwhile, in Marvel Comics' main timeline of Earth-616, the one that the Symbiote is currently bonded to is none other than Mary-Jane Watson, which made things pretty awkward when she engaged in her first fight with Spider-Man under her new disguised moniker. In fact, earlier on, in Venom #251, MJ and Venom even decided to model their appearance off the webslinger in an attempt to take the place of Peter Parker's vigilante alter ego.
The Symbiote made its first appearance as a sentient black costume in 1984's The Amazing Spider-Man #252, in which it bonded with Peter, giving him a striking new look to rival the old red and blues, but also dangerously altering his personality. It was four years later when the alien parasite found a new host in photographer Eddie Brock, thus marking the debut of Venom, from creators David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane.
