It is rare for a video game based on a comic book character to be as hyped as Insomniac Games' upcoming Wolverine game is, but the fan interest in this game has been at EPIC levels ever since it was first teased literally years ago. With the game now finally having a set release date this September, fans looking forward to playing the game now have a book about the game that they can ALSO look forward to this fall!

In a CBR exclusive announcement, Dark Horse Books, Insomniac Games, and Marvel Games are announcing Marvel’s Wolverine: The Art of the Game, which will be out in November. CBR was also given an exclusive first look at two pages from the book (well, technically three, but one is a double-page spread)

What is Wolverine: The Art of the Game About?

With a lot of the details of the game itself a bit of a mystery, the press release announcing the book actually has a bit more details about the game itself, which is interesting. The press release notes:

Logan steps into the spotlight in Marvel’s Wolverine, the new action-adventure video game from Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment in collaboration with Marvel Games. Fans play as Wolverine in an original story, testing his mettle against familiar opponents like the mutant-hunting Sentinels, the vengeful Omega Red, and the shapeshifting Mystique. In his globetrotting escapades, enemies new and old will demand everything of his animalistic instincts, his healing factor, and his savage, formidable adamantium claws. In Marvel’s Wolverine: The Art of the Game, explore the making of concept art, designs, and locales from the frosted Canadian wilderness to the bustling city of Tokyo, the remote island of Madripoor, and beyond!

The book will be written by games historian and freelance journalist Alex Forbes-Calvin, and he added, "Having the opportunity to be taken behind the scenes by the Marvel Games and Insomniac teams was a dream come true. Their shared vision for Marvel’s Wolverine, the world and characters for this game is a unique and fresh twist on the faces and places that fans know and love, and I can't wait for fans to learn more about how this was all created."

What Are in the First Look Pages From Wolverine: The Art of the Game?

The three exclusive first-look pages from the book include a double-page spread look at Madripoor, the island that has become such a major part of Wolverine's history after Wolverine's first ongoing series was launched in 1988 set on that island (as writer Chris Claremont wanted Wolverine to have a place to have adventures that were distinct from traditional superhero stories. The sort of things he could only get into when he was away from the X-Men).

Next is an in-depth look at the design of Wolverine's superhero costume for the game...

Marvel’s Wolverine: The Art of the Game is 208 pages long, and costs $54.99, and will be in stores on November 3rd.
