The following contains major spoilers for Uncanny X-Men #5, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

The Uncanny X-Men are finally gunning for their original home, and it is going to be a major problem for their latest enemies.

Uncanny X-Men #5 sees the eponymous team finally overcome the monstrous threat posed by Sarah Gaunt, better known as the Hag. After a brutal fight, Rogue takes it upon herself to deliver the Hag to her handler, Doctor Corina Ellis of the Graymalkin Prison. As surprising as it is that Rogue is so willing to hand off the Hag to her adversaries, even more surprising is the warning the hero delivers that, in due time, there will no longer be a Graymalkin Prison at all, just the Xavier Institute as it once stood before Doctor Ellis and her army took it over for themselves.

Black Panther stands tall on the cover to The Avengers #20.

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, also known as the Xavier Institute, is one of the most iconic locales in the entire Marvel Universe, not to mention the most key locale within the X-Men mythos. First seen in the pages of 1963's X-Men #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters was founded in the mansion and sprawling estate first settled by Charles Graymalkin in the 1700s. Though the land itself has a storied past, Xavier saw it as the perfect home and training ground for the young mutants who needed his help the most.

Following the end of the Krakoan Era, the Xavier Institute was invaded and claimed by Doctor Ellis and her Sentry Team, who transformed the space into a prison and research lab dedicated to holding and tormenting various mutants. For whatever reason, Doctor Ellis held a deep-seated hatred for Sarah Gaunt in particular, though she allowed the Hag to work for her hunting and kidnapping young mutants. So far, Doctor Ellis' efforts have largely been for naught, though she has managed to get her hands on at least one other key mutant prisoner in the form of Siryn.

One of the most explosive superheroes of the silver screen has finally explained exactly how her powers work in the pages of Marvel Comics.

The budding mutant team known as the Outliers were the primary targets of the Hag, who hunted the four ruthlessly before coming into conflict with the Uncanny X-Men. Consisting of Becca Constance-Pinette, aka Calico, Hotoru, aka Deathdream, Sofia Yong, aka Jitter, and Valentin Correa, aka Ransom, the Outliers are among the most intriguing new mutants to emerge in the post-Krakoan Era. Though each of these new mutants are a capable threat in their own right, the Outliers were quick to accept help from the Uncanny X-Men, once the dust kicked up in their initial battle was settled, that is.

Since their debut in 1963, Marvel's X-Men have been more than just another superhero team. While the team really hit its stride as the All New, All Different X-Men in 1975, Marvel's heroic mutants have always operated as super-outcasts, protecting a world that hates and fears them for their powers.

Key members of the X-Men include Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, Rogue, and Storm. Often framed as the world's second strongest superheroes, after the Avengers, they are nonetheless one of Marvel's most popular and important franchises.
