Lethal Protectors #2 featuring Venom and Carnage.

One of the deadliest villains of the '90s is officially back in action for Marvel's Venom War.

With a seemingly endless swarm of cannibalistic Zombiotes washing over New York City, Silver Sable and her team of symbiote-wielding mercenaries find themselves running dangerously short on options in the pages of Venom War: Lethal Protectors #2. Luckily, they have one final out that could very well end the entire Zombiote plague right where it stands. Unfortunately for them, there is no guarantee that the recently returned Shriek will have any interest in helping quell the threat, especially not after being sealed away in a metal tank for what might have been years on end.

Frances Barrison, better known as Shriek, made her Marvel Comics debut back in 1993's Spider-Man Unlimited #1 in the opening story "Carnage Rising!" by writer Tom DeFalco and artist Ron Lim. After suffering a violent, abusive upbringing, Shriek turned to dealing drugs, using her mutant powers to make a name for herself as a villain. Rather than rising through the ranks of the Marvel underworld, however, Shriek suffered numerous disastrous encounters that broke her down mentally and emotionally.

By the time she crossed paths with Carnage, Shriek was already incarcerated within the Ravencroft Institute. Seeing the serial killer symbiote as her way to freedom, Shriek opted to join Carnage in his rampage, finally cementing her place as one of the most dangerous villains of all time. In the years that followed, Shriek continued playing a key role in numerous storylines, most frequently by posing a uniquely lethal threat that few others could ever manage.

During the events of 2019's Absolute Carnage, Shriek was recruited into the Cult of Knull at the behest of her old partner in crime. Shriek was instrumental in helping Carnage amass a long list of victims, the Codexes of whom the villains harvested for their own nefarious goals. Once Carnage took control of the Ravencroft Institute, Shriek proved her unwavering loyalty by providing the living vessel needed to resurrect the dreaded Demogoblin. After willingly having her spine ripped from her body by Carnage and her Codex harvested, Shriek's physical form was inhabited by the demonic entity, giving rise to the infamous Demagoblin.
