‘Matrix’ Director Abandoned by ‘Transphobic’ Hollywood Hypocrites Hollywood never seems to stop talking about how it supports transgender rights. Yet one of its own highly praised icons can’t get a movie made that puts those characters front and center. Lilly Wachowski, formerly known as Andy Wachowski, is trying to finish The Hunted, a thriller budgeted at roughly $10 million. The problem is simple. Studios and financiers won’t touch it. The reason, according to Wachowski, is the movie’s wall-to-wall trans cast. “People like it, but they really don’t want to make it because it’s [got a] wall-to-wall trans cast,”said Wachowski on KCRW’s The Business podcast last Friday, adding that they now have to get creative just to put the film in front of anyone. Wachowski called the script “extremely important,” writing it as a response to what is happening in the world for trans people. Wachowski wrote it with parnter Mickey Ray Mahoney. The project sits in development through Anarchists United and Natasha Lyonne’s Ariadne banner.
