Three Jewish advocacy groups have condemned Mark Ruffalo after the actor linked Paramount’s proposed merger with Warner Bros. Discovery to Israel’s war against Hamas. The Anti-Defamation League, Simon Wiesenthal Center, and Creative Community for Peace said Ruffalo’s remarks crossed into antisemitic rhetoric. Paramount had already criticized the comments, saying Ruffalo used terms such as “genocide” and “apartheid” while attacking a business deal. Ruffalo, who appears in Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, shared an old video of Safra Catz, a Paramount board member and former Oracle executive. In the clip, Catz discussed technology Oracle had made available to Israel’s military after the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attacks. Oracle was co-founded by Larry Ellison, whose son, David Ellison, leads Paramount. Ruffalo called Larry Ellison a “classic oligarch” and accused Oracle of helping power what he described as a “genocide” built on an “apartheid system of oppression.” He also warned that Oracle technology could become part of the combined media company if the Paramount deal moves forward.
