Mel Gibson Gives Major ‘Lethal Weapon 5’ Update

Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh are getting back into action. Nearly three decades after the last film, Mel Gibson says Lethal Weapon 5 could bring the veteran LAPD partners back for one final case. Gibson confirmed the project’s latest details during an interview with Collider at Fan Expo Boston. He’s expected to direct the film and return as Riggs, while Danny Glover is set to reprise his role as Murtaugh. The sequel began taking shape under the late Richard Donner, who directed the previous Lethal Weapon films. Donner was working on the fifth installment before his death in 2021. Gibson later joined writer Richard Wenk to complete the screenplay. Gibson praised the finished script and said he believes it’s stronger than the earlier films.
