Perry White is easily one of the oldest additions to the overarching Superman mythos, with his first appearance taking place all the way back on an episode of the original 1940s The Adventures of Superman radio serial. Less than a year after his debut in February, Perry White would make the leap to the comics in the December issue of Superman by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, and Wayne Boring. In the years since, Perry White has been a near-ever present fixture in the DC Universe, most often as the head of the Daily Planet and a close friend of Lois Lane and Clark Kent.
In 2023's Superman #1 by Joshua Williamson and Jamal Campbell, Lois Lane was given Perry White's old position as Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Planet while the latter was hospitalized from a sudden stroke. While Lois was an obvious choice to take over the paper she has been such a key part of for so many years, the job hasn't come without its fair share of issues. The most prominent of these is that her knowledge of Clark Kent's secret identity creates an ethical issue in regards to his reporting on his own exploits as Superman. As such, Lois was forced to effectively demote Clark by barring him from reporting on his own superheroics, which itself put other reporters in danger by forcing them to cover the action in his stead.

Absolute Superman Reintroduces a DC Icon – and She’s Fiercer Than Ever
The Absolute Universe introduces yet another shocking take on a classic DC Comics character, and she is already more than Superman can handle.
Whereas Perry White has taken the opportunity to shift his focus from newspapers to politics, Lois Lane's life has only grown more complicated even beyond her new position running the Daily Planet. During Amanda Waller's recently concluded war on the heroes of the world in DC's Absolute Power event, nearly everyone from Superman to the Flash was stripped of their powers by an army of repurposed Amazo androids. To even the odds, Lois donned an old suit of Lex Luthor's Supercorp power armor, which proved to be just the beginning of her superpowered experiences. Following Waller's defeat, the powers that were stolen by the Amazos were returned, though not necessarily to their appropriate owners. Lois was just one of many who received powers she shouldn't have, giving her the abilities of any other Kryptonian living under the rays of Earth's yellow sun and setting her up for yet another stint as DC's Superwoman.
