Netflix bizarrely hired a man who is a convicted stalker, and who was also charged with soliciting prostitution, to be their expert on an upcoming docuseries about the Zodiac Killer. According to the Daily Mail, Tom Voigt considers himself a leading expert on the serial killer who terrorized California in the late 1960s. He has been running a blog tracking updates on the investigation for almost 30 years.
However, Voigt’s obsession with the case and his own past criminal conduct have started to come under scrutiny. It’s been learned that he proposed to his now-wife Angie on December 20, 2018 at Lake Herman Road – the site of the first known Zodiac Killer deaths, on the same date 50 years after the first crime was committed there.
According to the Daily Mail:
DailyMail.com can reveal that in 2005, Voigt was convicted of four counts of stalking, and violating a court’s stalking protective order in Oregon.
He was granted probation to community corrections and ordered to complete 160 hours of community service.
Separately, in 1991 Voigt was charged with prostitution – a class A misdemeanor relating to the solicitation of sexual services.
Voigt was confronted over the stalking charge in 2018 during a Reddit Q&A seminar relating to his work trying to unmask the Zodiac Killer.
Another user wrote: ‘Is he too busy stalking women to answer the questions or what’s going on….?’
Voigt responded: ‘I can multitask.’
DailyMail.com sought comment from Netflix regarding his inclusion in the upcoming documentary, and whether producers were aware of Voigt’s convictions.
They refused to comment.
He has also ghoulishly created a line of merch that allows him to profit off the victims and the murderer’s infamy.
Voigt has also come under fire for creating a line of merchandise profiting off the Zodiac Killer and his victims.
DailyMail.com has obtained photographs from a party in 2004 near Lake Berryessa in which Voigt and a group of friends posed with merchandise to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the death of a young couple at the site.
In one picture, Voigt held a mug with the image of victim Paul Stine. He wrote: ‘Ed and I break in the new Stine steins, which feature the likeness of Zodiac victim Paul Stine.’
Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix, recently caused a spike in cancellations of the streaming service for publicly announcing his donation of millions to Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign.
The three-part docuseries will air on October 23.
